The last couple of weeks has been mostly about hurricanes. Many countries are devastated while others are building and renovating for the busy season soon upon us. It’s the start of a new season in North America and time to start looking into vacations again.

What we’ve been up to at Pura Vida Vacations
We just moved to Costa Rica and opened our office. We are so excited for this new chapter to begin. We will be working from both locations in Canada & Costa Rica. We are looking forward to serving our client new and existing ones. We are not quiet through our first week yet with a torrential down pour the day of our arrival. Our main highway 27 had a few areas with mudslides making it difficult to pass. Since we had another major rainfall yesterday. I apparently have a leak in my roof, but luckily, it’s in the center of the room. A great fix it soon job for the landlord. We are waiting for our internet, land phone, and cable to be hooked up. Should be soon. It’s no problem as we learn to adapt to new locations we have our cell phone to send & receive calls, our computer working with a remote USB internet stick so we can continue to support our current clients on vacation & research great vacations for those waiting to book this winter & spring. All is well in the land of Pura Vida!
We just read that Air Canada Rouge with 49 planes currently will be offering low cost fare. Base fare will be less money but be prepared to pay for baggage as well as overhead bins. The cost of running a rouge flight compared to their other planes is about 30% less.
Our flight down to Costa Rica was with our Westjet supplier. Wow! I can’t say enough good things about them. From the airport staff helping check my over weight baggage to the crew on board the aircraft. I have flown with Sunwing, Transat, Air Canada, Avianca, and a flight to Spain which I can’t remember the name of the airline. I must say Westjet blew them away. The crew onboard were so attentive, accommodating, and had a wonderful sense of humour. Something I have not seen in service for the last 6 years and I’ve flown a lot.
As the Caribbean continues to get pounded by hurricanes yet another one comes along. Maria almost as powerful as Irma rips through Dominica & Puerto Rico. Our Caribbean Islands have taken such a beating in the last few weeks leaving many homeless, without essential needs, and tourists stranded. Many of the cruise lines, airlines & hotels have stepped up to help and support those in need. We can’t stress enough how important travel protection is. Our recommendation as a travel professional is to make sure you understand what is covered & not covered in your plan for unforeseen events.
On a happier note for those thinking of traveling to the Dominican might like to take in some tours if you’re staying in the La Romana area. There is so much to see & do if you take the time to explore new cities. In fact, many travelers today this is high on their list just under hiking. People want to experience the culture in destination. Why not? If you really want to grow your travel experiences visiting local areas is so enriching to us. Below are just some of the tours you can do in La Ramana.
- Altos de Chavon Archaeological Museum
- La Casa del Artesano
- Santa Rosa de Lima Temple
- Garcia Cigar Factory Tour
- Wild Ranch Zipline Canopy
- Cruise to Saona Island
- Ron Barcelo Factory Tour
- Cueva de las Maravillas
- Buggy Rides
Dominican Republic has 3 cruise ports in La Romana, Puerto Plata & Santo Domingo. The Amber Cove port located in Puerto Plata has seen an increase of 42.4% in arrivals this year. That’s a impressive number.
October is the start of our promotions with #CruiseMonth. Our suppliers will be offering lots of great deals & perks for upcoming cruises. You’ll be seeing lots of posting on our social media & emails from you. Finding the right cruise, ship, and prices with the best cabin locations is so important to us. We always monitor your bookings looking for better prices, upgrades, and perks to help enhance your experience onboard. This is all apart of our services at no extra cost to you. We say happy clients happy agent!
